San Felasco Hammock Preserve Family Session
The Herzogs
Gainesville, Florida
San Felasco is a such a gorgeous backdrop for photos! Between the big open field, tall grasses, and minimal crowds, it’s a great location for any type of session. I met the Herzog family there for their first ever family portrait session, and it was the perfect evening! The light was soft and glowy, the kids were impressively well-behaved, and it seemed like we had the entire place to ourselves. I’m excited to share some of my favorite photos from their beautiful session!
The Herzogs are an incredible family. I met Vincent at St. Augustine’s Catholic Church when I was in college at UF, and since moving back to Gainesville, he and his wife, Maria, have been nothing short of welcoming as we’ve settled into the community. They are so kind and easy to get along with. And their family was so fun to photograph! The girls are all so thoughtful, and the love they showed towards their baby brother was so sweet. Each of the four kids, even the baby, clearly add so much joy and character into the family. It’s beautiful to see how much life and love flows through their family dynamic.
During most sessions, I like to lay out my blanket for the kids to sit on for photos. Most kids don’t think twice about walking on it. But little Anastasia was so concerned about getting it dirty, so she was very carefully trying to avoid putting her feet on the blanket. It was quite cute, and such as great insight as to how Maria and Vincent have raised their kids to be so respectful and considerate! I love talking to Maria about educating kids and learning more about the ways that she and Vincent raise their kids to be caring, thoughtful, and generous. They are inspiring!
One of the coolest things about the Herzogs is that they all do Kung Fu together! I think it’s so special that they get to do something active, fun, and engaging as a family. I’ve always wanted to be the type of family that runs together, so I hope that my kids will think Joseph and I are cool enough to run with as they get older!
Maria and Vincent, thank you for getting your family in front of my camera! It was an honor to take your first family portraits! I hope you love your photos as much as I do :)
